Going Green

rainbow view of LCWL rainbow view of LCWLLog Cabin Wilderness Lodge is located off the grid, therefore we have a prime opportunity to “go green”. Our power is produced by a combination of solar panels, inverters, batteries with an occasional use of our 8.0 KW diesel generator. In 2009 we will be adding a Mariah Power vertical access wind generator and hope to run the diesel generator even less. The Windspire captures breezes at 30 feet and below with a design in which blades run up a pole?srainbow view of LCWL length and spin around it. Contoured airfoils make the Windspire the first vertical-axis turbine that can start in slow winds without help from a motor or inefficient scoops or wings. Our heat is totally supplied by wood, using primarily a Central Boiler outdoor wood boiler. We do have wood stove in the great room that is used occasionally. Each of our 5 guest cabins are also heated primarily with wood, with a propane back-up system. One hundred percent of our heat comes from dead wood either killed by fire, storms, or insects.rainbow view of LCWL
