Activities and Guided Tours at the Log Cabin Wilderness Lodge
There are many Alaska adventures to be had right at the Lodge, when you aren’t too busy relaxing and taking in the scenery! Feel free to explore on your own, or book a guided tour!
Fire Pit
We have a fire pit and benches available for bonfires when fire season permits. S’mores kits are available for purchase, or bring your own.
Berry Picking
Right on our property and on the surrounding trails you can find gobs of low bush cranberries, wild blueberries, and wild raspberries! Feel free to pick and eat to your heart’s content!
Aurora Viewing
Imagine your Alaska dream coming true as you stand underneath dancing waves of green, red, and purple light! You will not find darker night skies anywhere, and the Interior boasts some of the clearest weather in Alaska. The Log Cabin Wilderness Lodge is your best bet for viewing the Aurora Borealis in Alaska any time the skies are dark, which is about mid August through mid April. You’ll need a little bit of luck, but you just might be treated to the show of a lifetime!
Cross Country Skiing
Glide along miles of groomed trails and many different loops taking off right from your front door. We have skis and boots available for your use free of charge at the Lodge. You can take off on your own, or go with a guide.
Canoeing
Our little Mirror Lake, just a stroll from your cabin, is perfect for a little paddle and taking in the gorgeous mountain scenery. Or, if you are up for a bigger adventure, just 5 miles down the road you can put a canoe in at Mineral Lakes and paddle all day long exploring the various bays. We’re happy to take you on a full or half day guided canoe trip to one of the most beautiful places in the interior, and often you’ll be the only ones on the lake!
Freshwater fishing
Some of the best pike and grayling fishing in the interior is found in the creeks and lakes near the Lodge. We can show you some great spots to go out on your own, or take a guided trip with us. Guided trips include fishing gear and a picnic lunch.
Hiking
You can leave right from the Lodge on a hiking adventure as long or short as you’d like. We have several 2 mile mostly flat loop trails to the Little Tok river, or follow Log Cabin Creek for miles up the Canyon. For a smoother trail, you can hike down the old Tok Cutoff Highway, which is mostly still paved, with thick forest and ponds for wildlife watching all along the way.
Mountain Biking
The Old Tok Cutoff Highway also offers a really fun mountain bike trail! One of our most popular guided tours includes biking the old road, fishing at the end of the trail, and a picnic lunch. Bikes are available for rent at the Lodge if you choose to go on your own.
Wood fired sauna
Of course the perfect ending to any adventure is steaming in our wood-fired sauna by the creek, available year-round. There is a skylight for aurora viewing and a creek for a cold water plunge if you are brave enough!
Flight Seeing
You are welcome to take out the airplane and go for a spin… Just kidding. This tour is guided only :) Your host Jonathan Alsup is also a pilot for 40 Mile Air service in Tok and can take you on a spectacular glacier flightseeing trip, or live your Alaska reality show dream and come along on a rural mail delivery flight!
Wildlife Viewing
Moose are frequent visitors to the Lodge, and every spring you get the rare opportunity to see Dall’s Sheep lambs on the crags around the Lodge!! You might also see our resident porcupines, foxes, lynx, wolves, or even a bear.
Bird watching
The many wetlands surrounding the property provide ample opportunities for watching ducks, Trumpeter and Tundra swans, Sandhill Cranes, and many other migratory birds.
